HISTORY OF EBERSOLE ENGINEERS
Stephen F. Ebersole has been providing structural engineering professional services as Ebersole Structural Engineers Ltd. since May 1, 2004. Ebersole Structural Engineers Ltd is a spin-off firm from Hach and Ebersole, Consulting Engineers, where Mr. Ebersole was partner for 12 years. Mr. Ebersole has operated independently or in partnership providing structural engineering services since 1991.
Ebersole Structural Engineers Ltd. provides primarily Engineer of Record services and specialized structural engineering consulting to a broad range of clients including architects, contractors, owners, developers, and private entities.
Projects have included educational, office, residential, retail, hotel, industrial, and parking structures in designs of steel, wood, masonry, concrete, and post-tensioned concrete. Specialized services have included load evaluations of existing structures, repair and strengthening solutions for capacity issues in existing structures, dynamic testing of floor systems, and progressive collapse resistive design solutions.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Structural Design for load resistance of building structures is about code compliance, magnitude of load, strength of materials, relative strength of different materials, and development of load paths to transfer gravity and lateral loads through the building structure into the foundation system.
Structural design for serviceability relates to member deflections, vibration performance, differential movements between different materials, control of differential settlements, and detailing for relief of stresses due to restrained conditions.
Structural design for constructability is about generating a structural system that can be cleanly and simply detailed to minimize fabrication costs and erection time, and which can be designed to minimize waste in material orders, shipping and fabrication.
The goal of Ebersole Structural Engineers Ltd. is to integrate the requirements for load resistance, serviceability, and constructability into a safe, economical design that maintains the flexibility to satisfy the unique architectural requirements of our client's designs.
The scope of services provided by Ebersole Structural Engineers Ltd relates to the design of building structures utilizing materials as defined in specification divisions Three, Four, Five, and Six; Concrete, Masonry, Steel, and Wood. We defer to the expertise of the Architect or other consultants for all other specification divisions.
COMPUTER ASSISTED DESIGN
Ebersole Structural Engineers Ltd. has licenses for current State of the Art design and analysis software for concrete, post-tensioned concrete, steel, and masonry design, and two and three dimensional structural analysis. We utilize computer generated calculation spreadsheets for a variety of member designs, and for code tabulation of lateral load distribution.
All computer generated designs must be verified by hand calculations utilizing classical methods.
Use of computer generated data shall conform to the office design philosophy.
Use of computers allows structural modeling of an array of different conditions. Economical structural design searches for uniformity among those computer generated differences to result in a straightforward design.

STRUCTURAL DOCUMENT PHILOSOPHY
Structural drawings produced by Ebersole Structural Engineers Ltd. shall be stand alone documents, fully dimensioned, fully detailed, and fully coordinated. Drawing production shall satisfy all requirements for drawings as stated in the governing building code and in design standards of the American Concrete Institute and of the American Institute of Steel Construction.
Column and bearing wall designations shall match the architectural drawings.
Stand alone is defined as being able to be constructed independent of information on documents of other disciplines.
Coordinated is defined as, when work of other trades is superimposed on the building structure, it fits. Coordination does not mean that work of other disciplines is copied onto our documents and then structural detailing added. Information on structural drawings should be specific to defining the building structure only.
SPECIFICATIONS
Ebersole Structural Engineers Ltd. utilizes Masterspec for all project specifications. The licensing agreement with Masterspec provides for continual updates so that specifications always reflect current state of the art industry practices.
